Skills Checkpoint for Older Workers program

If you are worried about maturing out of your job, or are looking to transition into a new career you may be eligible for this government-funded program that helps older workers, or recently unemployed older workers remain in or re-enter the workforce. Eligible participants may access up to $2,200 (GST inclusive) as a co-contribution for up to half of their course from the Australian Government to fund re-skilling or up-skilling opportunities.


To be eligible for this program you must meet the below criteria:

  • Aged between 45 and 70; and
  • An Australian citizen or permanent resident; and
  • Employed and at risk or redundancy; or
  • Unemployed for less than three months and not registered with an Australian Government Employment Services Provider.

What does the program involve?

Individuals who choose to undertake this program will work closely with a Career Advisor on their work experience, strengths and preferences, and undertake individually tailored assessments to identify career and skilling options to develop a personalised Career Plan.

Getting Started

To get started with this program you must contact a facilitator to discuss your eligibility. This program is facilitated by either VERTO or Busy At Work depending on the State you live in.
