From Nurse to Educator: Kerrie’s journey to a whole new career
“I had a passion to share my 40-year history and experience in health care.”
For Kerrie Green, nursing was more than a profession. It was a lifetime of caring, guiding, and giving her all to others. After four decades in the health industry, she decided it was time to take everything she had learned and pass it on. That spark of purpose led her to study the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with Plenty Training.
From the very beginning, Kerrie felt supported every step of the way.
“No one gets left behind, the support was exceptional,” she said. “No question big or small was a bother. Always open and honest feedback.”
Balancing full-time work while studying was no small challenge. On top of that, Kerrie was still showing up for her big, beautiful family.
“Working full time and studying full time, my family took a back seat,” she shared. “I have 17 grandchildren and it was hard juggling their sporting events. However, we got there. And they had Granny be there too.”
When she looks back, Kerrie remembers how much the Plenty Training team helped her stay grounded and confident. “The weekly sessions with Roy, loved his calm, easy approach,” she said.
But perhaps the most powerful part of Kerrie’s journey was what it unlocked within her. “I have gained employment with TAFE Qld,” she said proudly. “Plenty Training gave me confidence in myself to apply for a position I didn’t believe I was good enough for.”
That confidence became a turning point. It gave Kerrie the courage to step forward, to claim opportunities she once doubted were possible, and to believe deeply in her own value. Now, as a Nurse Clinical Facilitator with TAFE Queensland, Kerrie is sharing her experience and helping others find their voice in the healthcare industry.
Her story is a reminder to every busy professional who feels like they do not have the time or energy to study that it can be done. If Kerrie can do it while working full time and being Granny to 17 grandchildren, you can too.
And her message to those standing where she once stood is simple.
“There is light at the end of the tunnel. You can do this, believe in yourself.”
