As part of this design cluster, students will gain the critical skills needed to use nationally recognised training products to meet vocational training needs, and experience what it takes to design and develop training and assessment programs. These are essential skills for designing effective training, and for those interested in program design, this cluster is sure to get you excited!
Students will begin by analysing two clients’ training needs and preparing and documenting a training needs analysis. Building on this foundation, they will then develop two vocational training and assessment programs covering a national unit of competency and finalise their plans in consultation with a stakeholder. You’re sure to be set up for design success with a start like this!

Students who elect to attend an optional online Workshop for this cluster will complete their training needs analysis and peer feedback activity, develop their two vocational training and assessment programs, and complete their stakeholder consultation in the Workshop class time (fees apply).
Delivery Cluster
This cluster includes the following units:
- TAEDEL411 Facilitate vocational training
- TAEDEL311 Provide work skill instruction
- TAEDEL412 Facilitate workplace-based learning
- BSBCMM411 Make presentations
As part of this delivery cluster, students will have the chance to plan, prepare for and facilitate vocational training for both individual learners and groups of learners via face-to-face, in-person delivery. Students will also develop the skills and knowledge required to conduct individual and small group work skill instruction, facilitate workplace-based learning (a vital skill for any workplace trainer), and influence and inform people through engaging presentations. This is your chance to put your new knowledge to the test and let your training skills shine!
Students will prepare and deliver two sets of face-to-face, in-person training programs, covering three sessions for group training and two sessions for individual training. Within these sessions, students will also plan, conduct and reflect on three instruction and demonstration sessions, design and present two presentations to audiences of at least two people, and develop a workplace-based learning plan for at least three different learners, facilitating the plan for at least one of those learners.
Please be aware of the below interaction requirements:
- Face-to-face, in-person access to four adult learners for group training and one adult learner for individual training (these may be friends, colleagues or fellow students).
- Sessions cannot be conducted via an online platform such as Zoom.
- Your TAEDEL311, BSBCMM411 and TAEDEL412 sessions can all be integrated into your TAEDEL411 sessions, so you won’t need to organise separate learners or sessions for each unit.
- All sessions must be recorded and submitted for assessment, showing participants are in physical attendance OR
- You may instead attend a three-day face-to-face Workshop delivered by Plenty Training in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane (fees apply).
Students who elect to attend an optional face-to-face Workshop for this cluster will deliver their training sessions, instruction sessions, presentations and facilitation sessions in the Workshop class time, and are not required to submit recordings (fees apply).
This cluster includes the following units:
- TAEASS412 Assess competence
- TAEASS404 Assess competence in an online environment
- TAEASS413 Participate in assessment validation
As part of this assessment cluster, students will gain valuable skills in how to plan, prepare for and conduct the competency-based assessment of candidates, both face-to-face and in an online environment. The ability to assess the competence of candidates is invaluable in the process of passing on knowledge and expertise, and being able to confirm that students understand the theory of what they have learnt and can put it into practice is an exciting way to start the assessment process. With a shift towards online training and assessment, these skills are sure to be put into practice by soon-to-be trainers and assessors in the workplace.
Students will conduct competency-based assessments with three candidates, and prepare and administer online assessments against an entire or partial unit of competency to at least three candidates via synchronous and asynchronous processes. To round out the cluster, students will participate in the validation of assessment processes and tools, both before they are first used with candidates and after they have been used. This includes holding a planning meeting with their validation team, which must be conducted live with a suitably qualified TAE Assessor leading the validation, and undertaking the validation of three assessment tools.
Please be aware of the below interaction requirements:
- Access to three different candidates to undertake an online assessment process and provide feedback (these can be friends, family, colleagues or fellow students).
- The undertaking of your assessments and the administration of your online assessment process must be recorded and submitted for assessment.
For TAEASS413 Participate in assessment validation, you must either:
- Attend a complimentary one-day online interactive Workshop covering the validation meeting for TAEASS413 (strongly recommended), OR
- Organise your own assessment candidates and undertake these assessment activities independently or in a workplace. You must have access to someone who will supervise you undertaking these assessment activities, and who holds one of the following:
- TAE50111 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training
- TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training
- TAE50122 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training
- TAE50211 Diploma of Training Design and Development
- TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development
- A higher-level qualification in adult education
Students who elect to attend an optional online Workshop for TAEASS412 and TAEASS404 will undertake their assessments and administer their online assessments in the Workshop class time, and are not required to submit a recording (fees apply).
Compliance and Development Cluster
This cluster includes the following units:
- TAEPDD401 Work effectively in the VET sector
- BSBAUD412 Work within compliance frameworks
As part of this compliance and development cluster, students will gain the knowledge they need to operate successfully within the vocational education and training (VET) sector’s regulatory and operational context as an entry-level VET teacher, trainer and assessor. Students will also discover how to identify statutory, legislative and regulatory requirements and relate them to individual work practices. Compliance is extremely important within the VET sector, so this cluster is essential for helping soon-to-be trainers and assessors navigate the industry’s strict regulations from the very start.
Students will identify the range of learner cohorts undertaking training, and the compliance requirements applicable to their future role as a trainer and assessor. They will interpret and apply two sets of personal compliance requirements, and create both a vocational professional development plan and a VET professional development plan to maintain their competencies, industry currency and skills as a trainer and assessor.
Please be aware of the below interaction requirements:
- Access to at least three learners to participate in a group discussion (these may be fellow students).
- The discussion with your three learners must be recorded and submitted for assessment.
- You must hold a meeting with a suitable stakeholder (such as your employer or your Plenty Training trainer) and discuss and gather feedback on your compliance Project 1 and Project 2.
Students who elect to attend an optional online Workshop for this cluster will hold their group discussion and stakeholder meeting in the Workshop class time and are not required to submit a recording (fees apply).
Duration: Students undertaking training have 6-12 months from their enrolment date to complete their studies and submit all assessment workbooks for this course. RPL candidates have six months from their enrolment date to complete their RPL interview and submit all required evidence. (Students may extend the duration of their enrolment on a month-by-month basis – extra fees apply as detailed in our schedule of fees.) Students may complete and submit their assessment workbooks at any time during their enrolment.
Assessment turnaround: The turnaround time for assessment submissions received by Plenty Training is approximately 20 working days from the date it is received. The time frame can vary depending on the number of assessment submissions being received at any given time. Students do not need to wait for assessment results or feedback to keep progressing. Students are encouraged to move to the next section of their learning while assessments are being reviewed by our trainers. Once a student has been deemed competent in all units they will be issued with their qualification within 30 calendar days.
Workload: This represents the notional duration of all activities required for the achievement of the learning outcomes. For students completing the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment the Volume of Learning is between 600 – 2400 hours. This means a typical student will complete this course over 12 months with a minimum of 12 hours a week for the 52 weeks.

All pathways: The following entry prerequisites apply to all students undertaking this course:
- You must be able to demonstrate vocational competency in your proposed teaching and assessing area. This means you need to have experience in the field in which you are going to train and assess, e.g., hairdressing, fitness, finance, etc. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.
- You must have:
- An appropriate level of English language skill which is important to the likelihood of participant success
- Access to a computer (with Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word and a web browser installed)
- Access to the internet
- Access to a video and audio recording device such as a smart phone or web cam
- An understanding of how to use Microsoft Word and Adobe Reader, be able to download, scan and upload documents, and know how to access online materials.
- To successfully complete this course you must be able to independently complete the following:
- Able to use Word, open PDF’s, save, rename and move files around, download and upload files in online systems and be comfortable to learn new programs and technology
- Search and read a range of information from the internet using sites such as training.gov.au
- Have access to a computer or laptop (a phone or tablet is not sufficient) and are comfortable to use this without guidance
- Write a range of different documents including learning programs, session plans, describing contents and ideas, outlining reasons and opinions and developing resources such as powerpoints, handouts, quizzes and observation checklists
- Be creative and have problem solving abilities so you can adapt and find solutions
All students:
Unit TAEASS413 Participate in assessment validation requires you to undertake assessment validations under the guidance of a qualified trainer and assessor. You may either:
- Attend an online interactive workshop provided by Plenty Training in which you may undertake these assessment activities (attendance at one of these regularly-scheduled workshops is included in your course fee); This workshop is delivered via the Adobe Connect platform.
- Students who choose to attend the online TAEASS413 assessment workshop must also have access to a computer enabled with audio and webcam functionality,
OR
- Undertake these assessment activities independently or in a workplace, subject to the following:
- You must have access to someone who possesses either (1) the TAE50111/TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or (2) the TAE50211/TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development or (3) a higher level qualification in adult education, and is willing to supervise you undertaking these assessment activities. This person must be able to provide a copy of their qualification, evidence that they have current industry skills directly relevant to assessments, have current knowledge and skills in vocational training and learning, and have undertaken recent professional development in the fields of the knowledge and practice of competency based training and assessment.
Unit TAEDEL411 Facilitate vocational training requires you to deliver two face-to-face, in-person training programs. These sessions must include three sessions for group training (at least four learners) and two sessions for individual training (at least one different learner).
You may either:
- Organise these face-to-face, in-person sessions and the participants yourself; or
- Attend a three-day face-to-face (available in most capital cities) delivery session provided for this purpose, for which an additional $180/day fee is applicable.
RPL candidates: You will be required to demonstrate that you have prior skills, knowledge and experience in the units for this qualification. You must first check your eligibility to enrol in RPL for this qualification. Please check your TAE40122 eligibility prior to enrolment.
