Dual Diploma Outcomes
The outcome of this course satisfies the prerequisite under Clause 1.23 of the Standards for RTOs 2015 to deliver and assess++ the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, any assessor skill set from the TAE Training Package, or TAE50116/TAE50216 Diploma of Vocational Education & Training and Diploma of Training Design & Development^, whereby you must possess either:
- The TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or its successor (or the superseded TAE50111 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or its successor), or
- TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development or its successor (or the superseded TAE50211 Diploma of Training Design and Development or it successor), or
- A higher level qualification in adult education.
++Note: Trainers (but not assessors) of the TAE40116 also have the option of working under the supervision of a trainer who possesses the TAE50111/TAE50116 or TAE50211/TAE50216 qualifications. (Refer to clauses 1.23 and 1.24 of the Standards for RTOs 2015.)
^Note: Notwithstanding the above, under Clause 1.13 of the standards for RTOs 2015 you must also have:
1. Have vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered and assessed. (This is often demonstrated by possessing the units you are delivering, or by your RTO’s internal competency determination.)
2 . Current industry skills directly relevant to the training and assessment you provide.
3. Current knowledge and skills in vocational training and learning that informs their training and assessment.
What is the Diploma of Vocational Education and Training?
The TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training covers how to deliver training and assessment services usually within Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) within the vocational education and training (VET) sector. They may have a role in leading other trainers and assessors and in providing mentoring or advice to new trainers or assessors as well as designing approaches to learning and assessment strategies across a significant area within the RTO.
The TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development is for training developers and instructional designers who are responsible for analysing training needs and designing training solutions and products to meet workplace capability requirements and evaluating the effectiveness of training programs. They may have a role in providing guidance and advice to trainers and assessors, promoting innovative practices, e.g. e-learning, and in researching and incorporating best practice in training and assessment into training programs and products.
This course is restricted to experienced trainers in the VET sector who possess the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, who have current or recent experience as a VET-sector trainer and assessor, and who wish to take the next step in their professional development.

TAERES501 Apply research to training and assessment practice unit – Additional $595
Apply research to training and assessment practice unit is a new requirement to access advanced pay scales in some organisations and is now a prerequisite for moving up classification levels and associated pay grades within Victoria TAFE and a number of private RTOs. Plenty Training offers students the option to swap the elective TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills with this popular new TAERES501 elective unit.
By completing TAERES501 Apply research to training and assessment practice unit as part of your TAE Diploma course (excluding RPL), you can request a certificate stating you have met the stipulated requirements of the Victorian TAFE Teaching Staff Agreement 2018 including the 200 hours of practicum, approved by the Victorian TAFE Association.
The TAERES501 unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake research into educational theory, and apply this research to improve current training and assessment practice. It applies to those who need to develop skills in research in order to apply educational theory to improve current and future training, and assessment practice. Our TAERES501 unit is available via three delivery options including our interactive iClass+ course, Distance+ course and RPL pathway. TAE50116 /TAE50215 Dual Diploma via Mid-Career Checkpoint program
The Mid-Career Checkpoint program is an Australian Government initiative to assist people who have spent time out of the workforce undertaking caring responsibilities (or individuals currently employed in designated industries) and are now looking to return to paid employment.
The program also supports carers who have recently returned to paid employment and would like to advance or change their career.
If training to upskill or re-skill is recommended by a provider, up to $3,000 is available to support enrolment in accredited training.

Interactive iClass+ course

Eight-day interactive iClass+ course plus ongoing interactive and self-paced online training and support
The interactive trainer-led iClass+ course is a fantastic option which mimics a face-to-face learning environment without having to navigate potential lockdowns and travel restrictions.
All you need is a computer with reliable internet connection, webcam, and audio functionality.

The iClass+ course plus online learning consists of:
- Eight-days of interactive online learning delivered via the Adobe Connect platform (delivered in two blocks of four-days)
- Opportunity to cover many of the practical assessment activities^ under the guidance of a qualified trainer
- Access to recorded unit theory lessons available 24/7

^A practical assessment activity is defined as an assessment task where you must have access to other individuals, groups or a qualified trainer and assessor to meet the task requirements. For example short answer questions are not considered a practical activity.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning TAE50116 only:
RPL is an assessment-only process that is designed for those who possess substantial existing skills and knowledge in a specific industry. It allows people to demonstrate their competence in these skills without first having to be trained. Our RPL kit is based on a combination of evidence submission and a competency interview conducted via phone.
This is a great option if you can provide evidence that you have prior skills, knowledge and experience in leading or managing VET-sector activities and/or designing and developing VET-sector resources such as learning strategies and assessment tools. Prior to enrolment please ensure you can provide the required TAE Dual Diploma evidence.
Individuals can choose to complete both the TAE50116 and TAE50216 Diploma via our Dual Diploma RPL pathway.
All RPL candidates must be deemed eligible to undertake RPL prior to enrolling.

Assessment
As part of this unit students need to understand and use the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) to identify and assist with LLN challenges. Students will analyse the LLN requirements and levels for training specifications, the levels of real vocational learners, adapt and contextualise resources to suit the LLN levels of your learners and deliver the training to those real vocational learners.
Please be aware of the below interaction requirements for Distance+ course students:
- Access to two real vocational learners
- Presentations must be recorded and submitted for assessment
Students enrolled in the iClass+ course pathway can complete their presentation in a separate two-day iClass+ workshop and would not be required to submit a recording. Please see the TAE class schedule page for available dates.
Note: A ‘real vocational learner’ is defined as a learner undertaking training required for their employment and directly related to the specific skills needed for that employment or enrolled with an RTO.
As part of this unit students will design and develop three assessment tools, each tool must cover an entire unit of competency. Once you have developed your tools you will validate and trial these tools, making any required adjustments.
Please be aware of the below interaction requirements for all students:
- Access to one or more individuals to hold a meeting (can be friends, colleagues or fellow students)
- Meeting must be recorded and submitted for assessment
As part of this unit students will conduct two different training needs analysis for one or more organisations. Once this has been completed students will document their recommendations for training and development strategies to meet the needs identified within the analysis. Once documented students will present their findings via a meeting / presentation.
Please be aware of the below interaction requirements for all students:
- Access to one or more individuals to hold two meetings and gather feedback (can be friends, colleagues or fellow students)
- Meetings must be recorded and submitted for assessment
Students enrolled in the iClass+ course pathway will complete one meeting in class time.
As part of this unit students will research and apply current learning theory to teaching in an adult environment. Students will consult with stakeholders to design and develop two different learning strategies each based on a nationally-recognised VET Sector qualification. Students will also review two Training and Assessment strategies and gather feedback from stakeholders.
Please be aware of the below interaction requirements for all students:
- Access to one or more individuals to act as stakeholders
Students enrolled in the iClass+ course pathway will complete one consultation and review in class time.
As part of this unit students will research and apply current learning theory to teaching in an adult environment. Students will consult with clients to design and develop two print based learning resources.
Please be aware of the below interaction requirements for Distance+ students:
- Access to one or more individuals to act as clients. With those clients you will hold an initial design meeting and review any finished resources
- Meeting must be recorded and submitted for assessment
- Access to two or more end-users / students to provide feedback on the finished resource (must not be the same individuals used as the client)
Students enrolled in the iClass+ course pathway have the opportunity to complete all tasks requiring interaction in class time.
As part of this unit students will demonstrate their highly developed skills and experience in delivering group training via two different modes.
One of those modes must be delivered live to learners either face-to-face or live online demonstrating their interactive and group facilitation skills.
Please be aware of the below evidence / interaction requirements for students:
- Access to four individuals to deliver group training (two per mode)
- The live group training session must be recorded and submitted for assessment
- Collecting documented feedback from two peers and 10 learners
- 100 hours of group facilitation within an Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
- Access to a Manager or Supervisor to confirm evidence of 100 hours provided
Students enrolled in the iClass+ course pathway have the opportunity to carry out the live training in class and are not required to record the session.
As part of this unit students will develop and apply a range of strategies for their own and fellow trainers practice in assisting students will Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) challenges.
Please be aware of the below interaction requirements for Distance+ course students:
- Access to five learners to analyse their core LLN skills against the ACSF
- Deliver a coaching session to two trainers on assisting learners with LLN challenges
- Coaching session must be recorded and submitted for assessment
Students enrolled in the iClass+ course pathway have the opportunity to carry out all interactions for this unit in class and are not required to record the session.
As part of this unit students will demonstrate their extensive knowledge of assessment requirements for RTOs under the Standards for RTOs 2015 and apply this to reviewing and improving performance and practices.
Please be aware of the below evidence requirements for students:
- Evidence of having assessed 20 candidates against at least one unit of competency
- Evidence of having undertaken 50 assessments based on one or more units of competency and documented the outcomes
Please be aware of the below interaction requirements for Distance+ course students:
- Access to at least three assessors for a planning and review meeting
- Meeting must be recorded and submitted for assessment
Students need to lead a team of at least three assessors (if you do not have the opportunity to do this in your own RTO we recommend you discuss attending our iClass+ course for this).
Students enrolled in the iClass+ course pathway have the opportunity to carry out all interactions for this unit in class and are not required to record the session.
As part of this unit students will design and develop evaluation instruments and carry out an evaluation of a training program.
Please be aware of the below interaction requirements for all students:
- Access to one or more individuals to act as stakeholders for the training program you review
- Signed third party report from a supervisor / main stakeholder to confirm you conducted your evaluation in an appropriate manner
As part of this unit students will explore a range of professional development opportunities and reflect on their own training and assessment practice.
Please be aware of the below evidence / interaction requirements for all students:
- Evidence of having participated in minimum of at least two networking activities
- Evidence of having received feedback from two peers and two students for at least 10 hours of your delivery
- Evidence of you having observed two other facilitators and having provided them feedback
- Evidence of you having received feedback from two peers in relation to your assessment of at least 10 candidates
- Evidence of you having provided feedback to two assessors in relation to their assessment
- Access to a supervisor or manager to verify you have undertaken professional development activities in an appropriate manner
As part of this unit students will undertake an applied research project relating to training and assessment practice in an organisation of their choice.
Please be aware of the below evidence / interaction requirements for all students:
- Access to relevant personnel in your organisation to approve your research proposal
- Access to a supervisor or manager to sign a third party report confirming approval of your research proposal
- Depending on your chosen research project you may need access to a range of individuals (e.g. other trainers, students, employers or industry representatives)
- Evidence of having presented your final research report to relevant personnel within your chosen organisation
Duration: Students undertaking training have 12 months from their enrolment date to complete their studies and submit all assessment workbooks for this course. RPL candidates have 12 months from their enrolment date to complete their RPL interview and submit all required evidence. (Students may extend the duration of their enrolment on a month-by-month basis – extra fees apply as detailed in our schedule of fees.) Students may complete and submit their assessment workbooks at any time during their enrolment.
Assessment turnaround: The turnaround time for assessment submissions received by Plenty Training is approximately 20 working days from the date it is received. The time frame can vary depending on the number of assessment submissions being received at any given time. Once a student has been deemed competent in all units they will be issued with their qualification within 30 calendar days.
Workload: This represents the notional duration of all activities required for the achievement of the learning outcomes. For students completing the TAE Dual Diploma (TAE50116 / TAE50216) the Volume of Learning is between 1200 – 2400 hours. This means a typical student will complete this course over 12 months with a minimum of 24 hours a week for the 52 weeks. Students completing this course via the Distance+ pathway and who need to organise others to participate in activities with them may require more than the minimum hours per week when completing this course.

This course is only available via the iClass+ or Distance+ course.
Prerequisites
Enrolment into this course is as per the terms and conditions as listed in our Student Guide. Please review these terms and conditions prior to enrolment.
Refer to our information in the Assessments tab to familiarise yourself with the volume of learning requirements of this course as well as the turnaround time for submitted assessments before enrolling.
General entry: the following course entry prerequisites apply to this course:
- Students must possess the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent).
- Students must have access to a computer (with Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word and a web browser installed), the internet, plus a video and audio recording device such as a ‘smart phone’ or webcam
- Students must be engaged in a workplace relating to VET-sector training and assessment activities or similar. This is because you should have the following experience and evidence to satisfy unit assessment requirements, or else have the ability to obtain this in your current role or organisation during your course:
- Assessed 20 candidates against at least one unit of competency.
- Undertaken 50 assessments based on one or more units of competency and documented the outcomes.
- Conducted a minimum of 100 hours of group facilitation
- Collect feedback of your training from at least two peers and 10 learners, and deliver feedback to your peers.
RPL candidates: You will be required to demonstrate that you have prior skills, knowledge and experience in leading or managing VET-sector activities and/or designing and developing VET-sector resources such as learning strategies and assessment tools. Candidates should ideally be working in the VET sector or have access to VET learners. It is a requirement to provide evidence of having assessed 20 candidates in the VET sector upon submission of your assessment workbook as part of your project. All RPL candidates MUST be deemed eligible to undertake RPL prior to enrolling.
All Students: You must have an understanding of how to use Microsoft Word and Adobe Reader, be able to download, scan and upload documents, and know how to access online materials. You must also have access to office supplies and equipment, including computers and relevant software.
